the type of stigmatizing language that plagues the addiction industry. There are no "addicts."
After graduate school, I served as the Director of Assessment Services for a hospital that specialized in addiction treatment, and later as Director of a residential center that approached therapy from a SMART Recovery perspective.
I currently work as the Clinical Director for the AToN Center, located in the Encinitas area. I have 8 years of rehab experience, and more than 15 years experience facilitating individual and group therapy to treat those with addiction and dual diagnosis. I have supervised post-doctoral, pre-doctoral and Master's level interns.
My professional experience is steeped in psychological assessment. Over the last 15 years, I have completed more than 5,000 assessments with individuals from a variety of backgrounds: those in need of detox or addiction treatment, those in crisis or grappling with trauma, those with depression and/or anxiety, geriatric patients and prisoners, among others.
I am certified by the American Psychological Association to facilitate continuing education on the neurobiology of addiction and the use of exposure therapy to treat addictions. Also I provide in-services to professionals on a range of other topics, including crisis intervention and risk assessment. Specialties include: addiction treatment, anxiety disorders, psychological assessment, exposure therapy, supervision and psychoeducation related to the interplay between neurobiology, life style, addiction and mood.
My approach can be described as blended, as I combine insight-oriented therapy with CBT and an informative process that integrates current research as applicable to depression, anxiety and addiction. I believe that the basic goal of therapy is to enhance self-resiliency. Fundamentally, I practice from a humanistic slant, especially in the treatment of addictions. I go to great lengths to avoid
